There are so many people that want to travel to Tibet to see the beauty that can be found there, but there are certain rules and regulations that everyone must follow first. After all, no one will be approved for a Tibet entry travel permit unless they have followed all the rules.
Here is an easy checklist of all documents needed for travel to Tibet:
- Passport and Chinese Visa
Everyone will need a valid passport and Chinese Visa before they will be allowed to apply for a Tibet travel permit. The passport will need to be valid for at least six months past the beginning of the trip or it will not be accepted. If the passport is going to expire sooner than that, people will need to request a new passport before they can apply for their Chinese Visa or Tibet travel permit. A Chinese Visa can be obtained in the country that a person lives in and it is easy to apply for. The one thing that everyone must remember is that not to mention Tibet while apply Chinese visa, since it is sensitive and China embassy may require extra paperwork.
- Tibet Travel Permit
A Tibet travel permit will allow anyone who wants to go to Tibet to board a train or airplane that is going there. These entry permits can only be obtained if a person is traveling to Tibet with a tour guide. Any other applications will be denied.
- Alien’s Travel Permit
Certain areas of Tibet are off limits unless a person has the proper alien’s travel permit. These travel permits can only be applied for after a person has arrived in Tibet, but they are necessary for people who want to go to restricted areas. The areas in Tibet that require an alien’s travel permit include the Mt. Everest Base Camp in Shigatse as well as other places in that region, Tsedang, Gyangtse, Ngari, Nyingchi, and Chamdo. The alien travel permits are normally approved within an hour or two which will be taken care of by your Tibet guide. Your original passport is needed.
- Military Permit
A military permit is required for anyone who is planning on traveling to Ngari (western Tibet), including Mt. Kailash, Lake Manasrovar, and Guge Kingdom… The application of military permit usually required to be submit at least 1 month prior tour starts.
As long as everyone has the documents listed above for their time in Tibet, they will not have any problems. Not everyone will need all these documents, but at least they will know about them for the future. What & which permit you need for your Tibet tour is mainly based on your itinerary in Tibet, and your travel agent in Tibet should take care of them.
